Friends, this year has been A YEAR.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A <i>really good year</i>,</div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
but also a year of stretching and growth and challenge.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And now the end of the school year is (almost) in sight, and we're feeling the effects of warmer sun and the hope of spring, </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
and I'm able to catch my breath just a little.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And I'm realizing that in the whirlwind of the good, and the new, and the stretching, and the growing, my writing and blogging time got pushed aside.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And I<i> miss</i> it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And I need to make more time for it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And you know what? Next year there will be more challenge and change and<i> good</i> for our family as I take on a new position at our school.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Among other things I get to teach writing. :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And you know what?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
THIS.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This is what I want for my students.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Writing is not just a subject for school. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Writing is not only for people who make a career out of writing novels.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Writing is a tool- a really important tool- for expressing yourself.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And EVERYONE has something to say.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I haven't blogged much this year, but I can leave you with something that has been a theme for our entire year:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ephesians 3:20</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
He can do (and has done) incredibly more than we could ever dream. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Because you know what? It's HIS power at work. Not ours.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

Our visit coincided with my final long run for some training that I'm doing, and as I tried to plan my route, I was having a difficult time coming up with enough streets in my hometown to achieve the number of miles I was looking for. (Yup, it's a small town.)<br />
<br />
I made a loop around the largest route I could find and ended up at the track behind my old high school.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguNcx9qWwRzadi08BDgpdLTaPrClnf7pnAdARHkhWH7z55ucUo9wevBpgzm0PEcdcf3bwUT9GhYcptE7ipj2V92X6xYXmciqWyDkiqyMOBYjiY2P21WiZNX3x3QGhchP8Hn_NOpMG4SOxw/s1600/019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="299" data-original-width="640" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguNcx9qWwRzadi08BDgpdLTaPrClnf7pnAdARHkhWH7z55ucUo9wevBpgzm0PEcdcf3bwUT9GhYcptE7ipj2V92X6xYXmciqWyDkiqyMOBYjiY2P21WiZNX3x3QGhchP8Hn_NOpMG4SOxw/s400/019.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The same track that I DREADED visiting every spring in elementary school. The one where we had to choose two races to run, and I chose the 50 and 100 yard dash because they required the least amount of running. The one where I always came in last.<br />
<br />
The same track where I (very painfully) had to run a mile to participate in volleyball. I never could run it fast enough to check off that requirement.<br />
<br />
The same track where I watched the <i>real</i> runners practice for track meets.<br />
<br />
I looked back at some of my <a href="http://annezplace.blogspot.com/search/label/Running" target="_blank">previous running posts</a>, and I realized that I used to really <a href="http://annezplace.blogspot.com/2012/07/when-will-i-be-runner.html" target="_blank">struggle with calling myself a runner</a>. But guess what. As I read through some of those posts I realized that even though I remember writing those posts, I don't really identify with them anymore.<br />
<br />
No, I'm not the fastest person out there, but I'm improving. I'm working hard. I'm getting stronger. I'm getting faster.<br />
<br />
And, more importantly? I'm doing it because I enjoy it, and because it makes me feel good.<br />
<br />
And you know what that means? <br />
<br />
I AM A RUNNER.<br />
<br />
I AM AN ATHLETE.<br />
<br />
And you guys? That feels really good.<br />
<br />
No, I didn't have a hugely emotional experience as I made laps around that track. But I did have a smile on my face. I enjoyed myself. I realized that it might have taken me 36 years to get there, but I felt at peace with that track.* <br />
<br />
Why do I write this? To encourage you. <br />
<br />
You CAN. <br />
<br />
It might not be running, but whatever you thought you couldn't do? Work at it. Gain confidence. <br />
<br />
And then go face those demons.<br />
<br />
Finally, as I came around the bend and approached a line of hurdles, I took a deep breath, and<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKROvNWTFC9HtJmaNnKaUxrOx6b_nkZnrr4TnicsBmLK6eiMsvDNspr7JOcHFXQX1NJl4mRi7sFp9JTYz6oGkx_fL8GBfWXzWiZgoOMOO1OowkpWHN3nFKaTti6NgDmd5lQI_2C2P0R_69/s1600/017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="640" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKROvNWTFC9HtJmaNnKaUxrOx6b_nkZnrr4TnicsBmLK6eiMsvDNspr7JOcHFXQX1NJl4mRi7sFp9JTYz6oGkx_fL8GBfWXzWiZgoOMOO1OowkpWHN3nFKaTti6NgDmd5lQI_2C2P0R_69/s400/017.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
BAHAHAHA....NOPE. We're facing demons...not jumping over hurdles here, people.<br />
<br />
;)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
*I do have one outstanding goal yet related to that track. I'd like to figure out what the mile time goal was that we had to meet for volleyball, because I know that even though I'm 20 years older, I could crush it now. ;)<br />
<br />

<br />
This block is the first block that I have wanted to try to make in a bunch of different color combinations. I managed to restrain myself, though. ;)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfxsY7mOwHzLybsg5SuNDR5UywV_F5LnxOzWLZqsTVzIG1678DZTaDv2mI2W0ZuB2z8AGXxeitEV8o2qFDXQTx4KiMIgF_dbOmFGIausGP7oZ4UYMrH3579n9iF3WY5dXXQ4F9etVFUzKC/s1600/088.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="567" data-original-width="640" height="283" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfxsY7mOwHzLybsg5SuNDR5UywV_F5LnxOzWLZqsTVzIG1678DZTaDv2mI2W0ZuB2z8AGXxeitEV8o2qFDXQTx4KiMIgF_dbOmFGIausGP7oZ4UYMrH3579n9iF3WY5dXXQ4F9etVFUzKC/s320/088.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And, because it's fun...here are the five blocks that I've completed so far.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDqrkHgHcJLRA8mVqLNrUNKPcllkqPaz8iuZQw1irxp8IKTUHYjaHIBcFiw_X3TMKcHBP-ZIsafCrGpAi-Bf-6VteEdBcGcDOdsf5lr-1rrz6yAWwNyc3LK7aOBP36QevjRCZlGO2W66Fq/s1600/087.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="409" data-original-width="640" height="255" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDqrkHgHcJLRA8mVqLNrUNKPcllkqPaz8iuZQw1irxp8IKTUHYjaHIBcFiw_X3TMKcHBP-ZIsafCrGpAi-Bf-6VteEdBcGcDOdsf5lr-1rrz6yAWwNyc3LK7aOBP36QevjRCZlGO2W66Fq/s400/087.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Enjoy!Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09351997030786878286noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008964028605751278.post-43553149145194055442017-06-12T15:49:00.001-05:002017-06-12T15:49:17.959-05:00The rest of the story.Recently I visited a church, and a pastor gave a children's moment.<br />
<br />
He started an illustration, and I was really impressed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBGzRp1cl7VR3ePPwv0z_ANWvPG5uhyphenhyphenxhHdirpSl-rLkYgJC24gAlEKnnzl5fVye_pXBGkiUQKdreTTSDOJ_fJwfgdrueEbnr4PhCzfSl132Ac9N4Ot_wlg3-RHRxxVA_ykHX4qifuyuOc/s1600/audience-1866738_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="294" data-original-width="640" height="183" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBGzRp1cl7VR3ePPwv0z_ANWvPG5uhyphenhyphenxhHdirpSl-rLkYgJC24gAlEKnnzl5fVye_pXBGkiUQKdreTTSDOJ_fJwfgdrueEbnr4PhCzfSl132Ac9N4Ot_wlg3-RHRxxVA_ykHX4qifuyuOc/s400/audience-1866738_640.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The pastor spoke of how he was a die-hard fan of one football team, and he was serving a church in a rival team's territory. The pastor was so enthusiastic about his team during his time serving in that church that he actually was able to convince some of the people in his congregation to switch their allegiances to his team.<br />
<br />
He went on to explain to the children that when we are very excited about something, our friends will naturally want to be excited about that thing too.<br />
<br />
And then he was done.<br />
<br />
And I felt myself lurch forward a little bit- as if I was in a car and the driver suddenly slammed on the brakes.<br />
<br />
In Luke 19 Jesus says to the Pharisees that if his disciples didn't shout his praises, even the rocks would cry out. These verses came to my mind as I fought the urge to jump up and say, "Jesus! It's about Jesus!"<br />
<br />
Friends, that pastor's illustration was really neat. But...would you allow me to finish it?<br />
<br />
You see...I want to be that fan- the one who is so effervescent about my team that everyone else starts to wonder that the big deal is.<br />
<br />
Because my team? Jesus-- the one who actually <i>came </i>to this earth, <i>lived </i>a perfect life, and <i>died and rose again </i>so that I could be redeemed and live in heaven someday-- IS THE GREATEST.<br />
<br />
He's undefeated, actually.<br />
<br />
And He'll never lose.<br />
<br />
And that should make us all so excited that we cheer and jump on His bandwagon.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHujMJo3fGEFqWgd0-0cmbCuOwnv6YcBUIcisVzi8TzhO3m43XpEiOgwp9YKLfSkQ33cfI_wNXcbhYeLM_v4pJV2wGF7UwjscTkBM3Ny-0KqSBEcMblukDBgK9k3_JRF9IaXzrx0fKZd62/s1600/392.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="640" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHujMJo3fGEFqWgd0-0cmbCuOwnv6YcBUIcisVzi8TzhO3m43XpEiOgwp9YKLfSkQ33cfI_wNXcbhYeLM_v4pJV2wGF7UwjscTkBM3Ny-0KqSBEcMblukDBgK9k3_JRF9IaXzrx0fKZd62/s400/392.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
...and few weeks ago, the opportunity arose to help another set of friends in the same boat (well...a <i>similar </i>boat, anyway), and I jumped at the chance.<br />
<br />
Except this time I decided I'd had enough with the blues and grays, and I decided to go girly.<br />
<br />
When I sat down to pull fabrics, I realized I already had quite a few strips cut from when I did <a href="http://annezplace.blogspot.com/2016/10/a-beneficial-quilt.html" target="_blank">these comfort quilts</a>. PERFECT! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg959GyYKIUJDbUJAUFUR0QNRPHvdFlKVRB6BcjqpRMmvygd-A_AOTr2FbdAPTwKb6v5Y4i4t4KQ4MW66MGIFv_kULta2pn4LWsp_qzWzrkg3fjD1StpDyXdN8CwJYXF8dieBGr4FtlURJv/s1600/386.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="440" data-original-width="640" height="275" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg959GyYKIUJDbUJAUFUR0QNRPHvdFlKVRB6BcjqpRMmvygd-A_AOTr2FbdAPTwKb6v5Y4i4t4KQ4MW66MGIFv_kULta2pn4LWsp_qzWzrkg3fjD1StpDyXdN8CwJYXF8dieBGr4FtlURJv/s400/386.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I added some white, et voila! I had just enough to make a scrappy pink quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpD5-D3NJWOaABB0jTNxfQqFJuTWpioh9cFSemZ7XGk_TAt2WosiJPAVmw0g6oHjoXqknLCM6F_upBAtLybjDOZyUs5P4m7y1xYllXlLrASKF5ToKjzu46Ja8bBgLrDu2voq8bcMHgonba/s1600/393.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="640" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpD5-D3NJWOaABB0jTNxfQqFJuTWpioh9cFSemZ7XGk_TAt2WosiJPAVmw0g6oHjoXqknLCM6F_upBAtLybjDOZyUs5P4m7y1xYllXlLrASKF5ToKjzu46Ja8bBgLrDu2voq8bcMHgonba/s400/393.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's hoping this quilt helps bring another little baby home!<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

A few years ago <a href="http://annezplace.blogspot.com/2013/04/my-happy-place.html" target="_blank">I was able to visit the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden</a>. I loved every second of it, and I think of my stroll through that garden often.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoTQHIzvLCdcYNY5N7ZIvZvsoXs_Y_zV83fAwqxkykVxSrdGOkG1X1gb2CPh2MGCLTnvStGS3xtE6JEW3SUpg_Qq5VPy3cs2hnDJ6Z_Dap15mvFXhUnJ8rrwNLa5nRNK0qVOXUVuezt79Z/s1600/112.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="640" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoTQHIzvLCdcYNY5N7ZIvZvsoXs_Y_zV83fAwqxkykVxSrdGOkG1X1gb2CPh2MGCLTnvStGS3xtE6JEW3SUpg_Qq5VPy3cs2hnDJ6Z_Dap15mvFXhUnJ8rrwNLa5nRNK0qVOXUVuezt79Z/s400/112.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
So, when I had the opportunity to visit the Columbus Park of Roses a couple of weeks ago, I jumped at the chance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTYzME4MIEWNyE-uivc_MSkVepnpW39KzqVLaoLQD291NHxVIaYAFzo81Xp2ERb6wTxfufOdMct7s0NRR1Wh9ydM1_r8AjFuY5Pt6qt7lkkHGxEmau4BmDX2UZFF8QrBxwlr0jVoOklhIX/s1600/098.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="640" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTYzME4MIEWNyE-uivc_MSkVepnpW39KzqVLaoLQD291NHxVIaYAFzo81Xp2ERb6wTxfufOdMct7s0NRR1Wh9ydM1_r8AjFuY5Pt6qt7lkkHGxEmau4BmDX2UZFF8QrBxwlr0jVoOklhIX/s400/098.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The trip through the garden was extra special, because even now the roses have a ways to go before they're blooming here in Minneapolis!<br />
<br />

<br />
I'm sending them to school, I'm teaching them to do chores, I'm making sure they learn how to swim...<br />
<br />
But I'm wondering if it's all for naught.<br />
<br />
Often we need to remind Blake to take smaller bites of his food AND chew the bites of his food while he eats. This is a good life skill, yes?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrdpWt2SM6WvDTF3Dpo5cGBeZRgIwyjrLAMgoEaV55WOKltVYDsDmyDi7nVizIcnvI1jJ9ItFh6OfmJUNJH_erUcSl6_PJGBXa39TGjLzN9qeTIGwz8ch1shhyphenhyphenTQnYgOMVIgbIRU1QCaNK/s1600/hot-dog-657039_1280.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="513" data-original-width="785" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrdpWt2SM6WvDTF3Dpo5cGBeZRgIwyjrLAMgoEaV55WOKltVYDsDmyDi7nVizIcnvI1jJ9ItFh6OfmJUNJH_erUcSl6_PJGBXa39TGjLzN9qeTIGwz8ch1shhyphenhyphenTQnYgOMVIgbIRU1QCaNK/s400/hot-dog-657039_1280.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Except...recently we were eating hot dogs, and I (once again) reminded Blake to take smaller bites.<br />
<br />
Without missing a beat, he swallowed what was in his mouth, and, quite matter-of-fact, he explained to me, <br />
<br />
"Mom, someday when I am swallowing swords in the circus I will say, 'See, Mom? And you told me to only take small bites.'"<br />
<br />
Sigh.... <br />
<br />
I QUIT.Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09351997030786878286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008964028605751278.post-91472121065024004802017-06-02T09:00:00.000-05:002017-06-02T09:00:16.877-05:00Celestial Star.Week three of the Summer Sampler 2017! I'm loving these blocks.<br />
<br />
Except this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglCfTGWb9i6avSQ89RFSOlLxPH-cOcvdzTYs8LR_LKH0R6cv5jyiq1mBDwbxx8E7BIdGmxlZWQn1mdi5v6wGDfYT1oMSlXg20gb0mzb23I4DFZtnuVjmxba_HOeQ-J9yfhDr0meM3Q4efL/s1600/so+many+points.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="810" data-original-width="1440" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglCfTGWb9i6avSQ89RFSOlLxPH-cOcvdzTYs8LR_LKH0R6cv5jyiq1mBDwbxx8E7BIdGmxlZWQn1mdi5v6wGDfYT1oMSlXg20gb0mzb23I4DFZtnuVjmxba_HOeQ-J9yfhDr0meM3Q4efL/s400/so+many+points.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
SO! MANY! POINTS! (Each of those pins marks a spot where to triangle points have to [EXACTLY! VERY PRECISELY! NO ROOM FOR ERROR!] meet.)<br />
<br />
Getting all of those points to match up caused enough angst that I let the block sit for two days before I returned to it to pull the paper off of the back.<br />
<br />
But I'm glad I did, because....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4b8-XMh51RuaO9cUa02ckvv-2dTnPmgPQtnXgdo7IbX2JxznbbQitCA_n6WPEJbRtuNqnfdDhz3y7tdDsfiZ7XVMKJ9-a9muIboa7GXDk6QbI89TPbpt4GOtXFf1jTDfk3IIR5bPLnr-_/s1600/celestial+star+small.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="902" data-original-width="1000" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4b8-XMh51RuaO9cUa02ckvv-2dTnPmgPQtnXgdo7IbX2JxznbbQitCA_n6WPEJbRtuNqnfdDhz3y7tdDsfiZ7XVMKJ9-a9muIboa7GXDk6QbI89TPbpt4GOtXFf1jTDfk3IIR5bPLnr-_/s400/celestial+star+small.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
Isn't it beautiful!?<br />

<br />
Today we went to the library and filled our bag so full that I was the only one who could carry it.<br />
<br />
And on the way home we stopped at the park. <br />
<br />
While the kids played, I sat in the shade. I enjoyed the cool breeze. <br />
<br />
I breathed. (Nope, it was no coincidence that I happened to drive to my favorite park...the one with a lot of shade and a few children.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoWDhAEKE8YUjunJ80DnzYQ77VhLbS4xZAxrY3pDxTwlWW3F6jFv3EX__gG4XxkZyT1p6htZ-C2hAt4Zsjr3sBQaDr4VN7UCKIRy03BLlPC-6wR0bAv94D6ulJ0BgC3yBllLi2qJGwbx-r/s1600/20170601_133731.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="563" data-original-width="1000" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoWDhAEKE8YUjunJ80DnzYQ77VhLbS4xZAxrY3pDxTwlWW3F6jFv3EX__gG4XxkZyT1p6htZ-C2hAt4Zsjr3sBQaDr4VN7UCKIRy03BLlPC-6wR0bAv94D6ulJ0BgC3yBllLi2qJGwbx-r/s400/20170601_133731.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And I took a picture of Blake and me.<br />
<br />
And I realized, THIS. I want more of this. <br />
<br />
I want more silly pictures.<br />
<b></b><b><br /></b>
I want more cheering on the kids as they conquer monkey bars and once too-tough tunnels.<br />
<br />
I want more piles of library books.<br />
<br />
You know, it's funny. I spend much of my time trying to get so many things done so that I have something to write about. <br />
<br />
And at the end of the day, I want to write...but I don't have any words.<br />
<br />
Yet, when I slow down...when I take the time to breathe and do nothing?<br />
<br />
That's when I find something to say.<br />
<br />
I want more of this.<br />
<br />
<br />Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09351997030786878286noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008964028605751278.post-82642862260070475492017-05-17T16:20:00.000-05:002017-05-17T16:23:48.480-05:00My Soul Sings.Several months back I stumbled across a novel written by Kim Vogel Sawyer. The book grabbed my attention. The plot was different than any I had ever read, it was based on actual historical events, and, most interestingly, it made me want to write fiction. <br />
<br />
Me? Write FICTION?! That book* must have been good... <br />
<br />
Recently I had an opportunity to receive an advanced release copy of "My Soul Sings" in exchange for writing a review. I am even pretending that when she wrote "ARC NOT FOR RESALE," what she was really writing was, "TO ANNE, MY NUMBER 1 FAN. LOVE, KIM."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMLAPDoxMB8cgy8s8rcKFWcHofujN3on95k5rcQ9_jiFijiJIdfKKPNr7GTK32yqm2MQg9_qPRNlzNiqu4VAY9GoOIdUoPAutp_skQFieCEz2hvze9L4xXWa-Y85B5qGYTSKVST26tksuj/s1600/015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="342" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMLAPDoxMB8cgy8s8rcKFWcHofujN3on95k5rcQ9_jiFijiJIdfKKPNr7GTK32yqm2MQg9_qPRNlzNiqu4VAY9GoOIdUoPAutp_skQFieCEz2hvze9L4xXWa-Y85B5qGYTSKVST26tksuj/s400/015.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Friends...dedication or not, I loved the book.<br />
<br />
One of the things that I love about Kim's writing is that she always comes up with compelling story lines. I find that I get drawn in, and I MUST FINISH AS SOON AS POSSIBLE because I can never tell where she's going to go with the story.<br />
<br />
"My Soul Sings" was no different. I got wrapped up in the characters, and couldn't figure out how she was going to resolve the conflict.<br />
<br />
My only complaint is that I want to know what happens to the characters next. ;)<br />
<br />
I received this book in return for a review, but the sentiments are my own- I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to you too. <br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />
<br />
*The title of that first book I read was "A Home in Drayton Valley."Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09351997030786878286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008964028605751278.post-38744049713840159802017-05-16T13:14:00.001-05:002017-05-16T13:14:53.083-05:00Summer Sampler - Week 1.Remember the <a href="http://annezplace.blogspot.com/2017/04/geometric-slide.html">graduation/wedding quilt</a> I made a few weeks ago from the Vintage Quilt Revival book?<br />
<br />
Well...get this. The authors of that book are hosting <a href="http://freshlypieced.com/2017/05/2017-summer-sampler-summer-star-medallion.html">a summer quilt along</a>, AND I'M TOTALLY GOING TO QUILT ALONG! :)<br />
<br />
Each week from now until September I will receive instructions for one of the blocks on the quilt. This week is week one. The block is called Millcreek Star.<br />
<br />
Here's mine:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjilNEvwIxVKu1zv0GbcRs77FUI98pS_U_4Y-ro4p1xZANixzj7i5zWk0Kxf9pdceyRoqxyVi5wNJrzWV_Jts7NZVnoGYdLd18cNT-iacLYr5MbO_RtV7fyfh9iH0kaV56yBUVjPjf1LMeA/s1600/ss+block+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="357" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjilNEvwIxVKu1zv0GbcRs77FUI98pS_U_4Y-ro4p1xZANixzj7i5zWk0Kxf9pdceyRoqxyVi5wNJrzWV_Jts7NZVnoGYdLd18cNT-iacLYr5MbO_RtV7fyfh9iH0kaV56yBUVjPjf1LMeA/s400/ss+block+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The block currently measures 6.5" x 6.5". <br />
<br />
For scale, you can see the size of the center of the block in relation to my hand. Tiny!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzj73qEfw8XXpMPztpLmOoKmoAFXW46Y008chml1jammuH_OH6TZqze5yK5xYLHu5Q26j109rmTR_krnJdYtq3uxSygwjQuvoL4aMKNL5GlFFm3Tm-efu6HC_eutiHskx55qA9RsS5xqNY/s1600/158.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzj73qEfw8XXpMPztpLmOoKmoAFXW46Y008chml1jammuH_OH6TZqze5yK5xYLHu5Q26j109rmTR_krnJdYtq3uxSygwjQuvoL4aMKNL5GlFFm3Tm-efu6HC_eutiHskx55qA9RsS5xqNY/s400/158.jpg" width="353" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I'm already looking forward to next week...I just hope it doesn't have so many tricky triangles. ;)<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfyER2VDzKrXHo0O2A3oF2iEniCKrCfYbbCON81XQdPF-FEqqBwoXkSpHItm3s6RRfGsHSeGIX6EYdxkna8aO2KckmhR8igeJQG3quGSf9r_O0sPbVGIJH4_ioc1C_HaU2Gl_s_sERixiL/s1600/053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfyER2VDzKrXHo0O2A3oF2iEniCKrCfYbbCON81XQdPF-FEqqBwoXkSpHItm3s6RRfGsHSeGIX6EYdxkna8aO2KckmhR8igeJQG3quGSf9r_O0sPbVGIJH4_ioc1C_HaU2Gl_s_sERixiL/s400/053.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
But I think that's not practical.<br />
<br />
Except, did you hear me squeal when I made this one last week? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOENI8zigwwUIhAekV54AjoiOqXupn9peSe5Fz8bV_T0lKCLwqC4TlNnwUJNoysrNRpyS63NvH2U8B416qkv9NwOw2J_Sspt1gGUQQULS6KIqHAiZQmNHNNJbBcH2Zz63wYWftJktp7_BM/s1600/054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOENI8zigwwUIhAekV54AjoiOqXupn9peSe5Fz8bV_T0lKCLwqC4TlNnwUJNoysrNRpyS63NvH2U8B416qkv9NwOw2J_Sspt1gGUQQULS6KIqHAiZQmNHNNJbBcH2Zz63wYWftJktp7_BM/s400/054.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Maybe I need to have about four or six more daughters so that I have an endless list of excuses to sew cute little birthday presents.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTZcESBRA1nrzdGMychthqUn0srswaXuTPrTmpzCw6i_Xdsi3hwdFUvowlOm_77qSMBE6QwIA2j_LStZxomY9MDlDrnZEmIHOTHxeMsjynUVyGHNooCgwKpNNJWt-A3c4zEgMAi1tjDvDY/s1600/063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="323" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTZcESBRA1nrzdGMychthqUn0srswaXuTPrTmpzCw6i_Xdsi3hwdFUvowlOm_77qSMBE6QwIA2j_LStZxomY9MDlDrnZEmIHOTHxeMsjynUVyGHNooCgwKpNNJWt-A3c4zEgMAi1tjDvDY/s400/063.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Or maybe it would be easier to just quit my normal life and only ever sew zipper pouches.<br />
<br />
;)<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

<br />Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09351997030786878286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008964028605751278.post-70913806218822389802017-04-29T09:30:00.000-05:002017-05-03T16:29:27.113-05:00I'm going to do nothing else with my life except sew zipper pouches....or maybe I won't. <br />
<br />
But I really love sewing zipper pouches. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC2z6MHA1VdZE8IGoaQrJtJxDgJUlPM6CTp7GutEzrptA82tStbZvvv_cILAaI152A2W0YdWvj3vobe_CwtKNLrCMIk_7InPXjp7gkTrPUh6_Gck6xbz8YToqOF-2ZBq1eKiumC3Q_hUPq/s1600/042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC2z6MHA1VdZE8IGoaQrJtJxDgJUlPM6CTp7GutEzrptA82tStbZvvv_cILAaI152A2W0YdWvj3vobe_CwtKNLrCMIk_7InPXjp7gkTrPUh6_Gck6xbz8YToqOF-2ZBq1eKiumC3Q_hUPq/s400/042.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This zipper pouch started out as a mini wall hanging (much like <a href="http://annezplace.blogspot.com/2017/04/solids.html">this one</a>)...but then I added the heart, and I realized that what I really wanted to do was add a zipper, et voila...<br />

<br />
my friend received a zipper pouch for a housewarming gift rather than a mini wall hanging.<br />
<br />
I don't think she minded too much. ;)<br />

<br />
I wanted to give her a special gift, and really...what could be more special than a quilt?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIKLPGM8TJY9bBQJtQi4V2459aaWmWU8ga6amtQVs17GNxVECsXdi7CICw2uCj1I_0cE_8wrEvLy1UoFeXnIk-HvOJrGf5fN75AbvIwossmQmLLm-B5WtFoZ3ShBM6_bp0K3J5cq2_EmSl/s1600/095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIKLPGM8TJY9bBQJtQi4V2459aaWmWU8ga6amtQVs17GNxVECsXdi7CICw2uCj1I_0cE_8wrEvLy1UoFeXnIk-HvOJrGf5fN75AbvIwossmQmLLm-B5WtFoZ3ShBM6_bp0K3J5cq2_EmSl/s400/095.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
For this quilt I pulled out my trusty copy of Vintage Quilt Revival. I really loved completing <a href="http://annezplace.blogspot.com/2015/02/complete.html">the sampler quilt</a>, and I've been itching to try another one of the quilts ever since.<br />
<br />
I chose "Geometric Slide." (<a href="http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/?s=geometric+slide">Here's a picture</a> of author Faith Jones' original version).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhslPTEE9E_zsnrtHbOB4S7h6LlIWq3xjmg_VCcd6fruMmL3cK-wV-813rvbQdMs7178SUNDHi6pO9a0TXQdU7BZe6PlJNGQdXjhyphenhyphenGtkHSnFqLnYNE02dV-R7m4p-U5rw7QE1yLm_ANoD_q/s1600/058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhslPTEE9E_zsnrtHbOB4S7h6LlIWq3xjmg_VCcd6fruMmL3cK-wV-813rvbQdMs7178SUNDHi6pO9a0TXQdU7BZe6PlJNGQdXjhyphenhyphenGtkHSnFqLnYNE02dV-R7m4p-U5rw7QE1yLm_ANoD_q/s400/058.jpg" width="272" /></a></div>
<br />
I chose to use a gray background with blues and greens, and OHMYGOODNESS it was SO DIFFICULT to give away this quilt. :) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaSE8tJJWn3FnUcT7xiWW0C3WGaNp3ez5f895sWddJ_i06uuy3YtFgmDCCvGXbWwxTgCnhR_NPAQvNvTe0LYbeHzTrZ3Ak2kpzHeMmrxKaTju0TNk0ffiO6vtV0a8AFHfjJApaFeYX6U9G/s1600/062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaSE8tJJWn3FnUcT7xiWW0C3WGaNp3ez5f895sWddJ_i06uuy3YtFgmDCCvGXbWwxTgCnhR_NPAQvNvTe0LYbeHzTrZ3Ak2kpzHeMmrxKaTju0TNk0ffiO6vtV0a8AFHfjJApaFeYX6U9G/s400/062.jpg" width="305" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the colorful binding and the texture from the stippling...and pretty much every single thing about this quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidK_1M1kplzPwkqdPcSQvkmc1R03Y3igpYr9NVmEBSyFjGbdFTn3iFZk3bwhD3ZG8hRJO1Amv1iWqAJPjbXB_dJvTlhVwm5L-nZphUTaJQtqV5p4cxCrmnLHvJNnHpfr9yFL_gkdZScFGT/s1600/099.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="275" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidK_1M1kplzPwkqdPcSQvkmc1R03Y3igpYr9NVmEBSyFjGbdFTn3iFZk3bwhD3ZG8hRJO1Amv1iWqAJPjbXB_dJvTlhVwm5L-nZphUTaJQtqV5p4cxCrmnLHvJNnHpfr9yFL_gkdZScFGT/s400/099.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So now if someone else could please graduate or get married so I have another excuse to make quilt from this book?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmOGM8heIzoWVR9QssNgQihQDSXxjuROAbLEO981iANFzESsToLp3hXyNLypegBQwupu73sQe5UbZIy-VR8TRWe0yVKL9BhncodZ_k6292Jg9_62_5DcwUik1wrH5kMlVrV9wCgJB0QpX_/s1600/066.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmOGM8heIzoWVR9QssNgQihQDSXxjuROAbLEO981iANFzESsToLp3hXyNLypegBQwupu73sQe5UbZIy-VR8TRWe0yVKL9BhncodZ_k6292Jg9_62_5DcwUik1wrH5kMlVrV9wCgJB0QpX_/s400/066.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

I've enjoyed participating in Simple Simon & Co.'s Modern Quilt Along each month for the past couple of months, and I was excited when I had time to sit down and play with some fabrics for <a href="http://www.simplesimonandco.com/2017/04/modern-quilt-along-solid-colors-with-jessica-schunke.html/">this month's challenge: solids</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I admit that I don't do well with solids. Somehow (in my brain, at least) it's scarier to only rely on colors to keep you interested in a quilt. Cute prints are so much more exciting...and forgiving. ;)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For this challenge I dug through my scrap bins and picked out some spring-y colors to create a mini wall hanging or table runner. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm envisioning it sitting under a pretty vase of flowers, yes?</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In August our family purchased a non-standard size pillow, and it needed a pillowcase. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I can totally make one- that's no big deal." I told Nate. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Seven months ago.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But never fear, Nate! This was the week. There was a charm pack calling to me, and I decided to make it into a cover for our not-so-new pillow.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhREE6jR576q3jkbsNahMxhG2lzGyn6ljcJslg2TcFXIsq-hr3oTpliRTWaJIqIadSG6OlwUqGdPriWSonD0vAJCC4mIrOP5Sccl2EgH0_RH5h7seaRbZRKigIwGEEdo46la5e2WZ5L1w0Y/s1600/011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhREE6jR576q3jkbsNahMxhG2lzGyn6ljcJslg2TcFXIsq-hr3oTpliRTWaJIqIadSG6OlwUqGdPriWSonD0vAJCC4mIrOP5Sccl2EgH0_RH5h7seaRbZRKigIwGEEdo46la5e2WZ5L1w0Y/s400/011.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I decided I'd keep on with my half-square triangle <a href="http://annezplace.blogspot.com/2017/02/big-hsts-for-little-baby.html">obsession of late</a>, and this is what I came up with.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix54b6FuHuuZ9dM4_wBnj-OKOFT8gIKHMe39jb3pgwuyQruZtl39HqQsQ6p9Xjtzq2ACQnp99JDY3hUSFqf9UjMcrQ2pF8Py2FcKnL4cbNGrGpDAcRzviw7d_4IG8JQqqZO7VeQzRlN8Sa/s1600/013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="243" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix54b6FuHuuZ9dM4_wBnj-OKOFT8gIKHMe39jb3pgwuyQruZtl39HqQsQ6p9Xjtzq2ACQnp99JDY3hUSFqf9UjMcrQ2pF8Py2FcKnL4cbNGrGpDAcRzviw7d_4IG8JQqqZO7VeQzRlN8Sa/s400/013.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="text-align: justify;">I love it! The </span><a href="http://www.simplesimonandco.com/2017/03/modern-quilt-along-bold-prints-angela-pingel.html/" style="text-align: justify;">challenge from SimpleSimonandCo</a><span style="text-align: justify;"> this month was to experiment with bold prints, and I'm so glad that I did. I don't think that I would have had the guts to use some of these fabrics (hello loud butterflies!), but I'm so glad I did.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz5f1-LFkYPNcyDiVRhvP735gmoFKPfgoHV5PRZzXbl6RXHc3oYWNWd8zvmfazbhv5piSIPENClbbdy4FxDd3giweOj5YCaHG5jU37ZKWnUN21i__cA-j0ZT812f4ZH87X1OmTwpsaUN8K/s1600/015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz5f1-LFkYPNcyDiVRhvP735gmoFKPfgoHV5PRZzXbl6RXHc3oYWNWd8zvmfazbhv5piSIPENClbbdy4FxDd3giweOj5YCaHG5jU37ZKWnUN21i__cA-j0ZT812f4ZH87X1OmTwpsaUN8K/s400/015.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now my next challenge is to keep Abby from stealing it for her own. :)<br />
<br />
Enjoy! Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09351997030786878286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008964028605751278.post-90897928588048971932017-02-16T14:09:00.001-06:002017-02-16T14:14:46.914-06:00Big HSTs for a Little Baby.A tiny little baby entered our world, and I wanted to make a special quilt for him.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOc2lx02-fblBeOiqM7i1GwmMekXH4j7wKeB79-OZHDq6vhVsEcggaHQUDYEXcI1xuvZizSpol4fR2b2ogQTlrvkJzrNHBKfmhZZIWrfRI1TWC0IjRQQDj4ZbJChotuvP-gj-WLd36hbg-/s1600/010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOc2lx02-fblBeOiqM7i1GwmMekXH4j7wKeB79-OZHDq6vhVsEcggaHQUDYEXcI1xuvZizSpol4fR2b2ogQTlrvkJzrNHBKfmhZZIWrfRI1TWC0IjRQQDj4ZbJChotuvP-gj-WLd36hbg-/s400/010.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It all started with this bee fabric. I've been holding onto it for a few years now, waiting for the right little baby to come along.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHp2SJApUrtJo_BAm62LsdVd_ej8ueDalQG-un4FcYWL5aQbuBhKRmSXlayPhG5Sf3dv7mCzmBALA7c8OYCi4O6wR0Lopv9kUIFyO4djwq958pCpAhdln4zZ4CD7Zlw4Fcv6IkEh6df3In/s1600/004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHp2SJApUrtJo_BAm62LsdVd_ej8ueDalQG-un4FcYWL5aQbuBhKRmSXlayPhG5Sf3dv7mCzmBALA7c8OYCi4O6wR0Lopv9kUIFyO4djwq958pCpAhdln4zZ4CD7Zlw4Fcv6IkEh6df3In/s400/004.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
My second goal with this quilt was to experiment with large half-square triangles. I started with 10" squares, and the rest is history.<br />
<br />
At first I didn't love this quilt. I got a little nervous when I was arranging blocks....but with each step that I took to make the quilt, I loved it even more. And the binding (scrappy, of course!) was the icing on the cake.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi96IjfxpOxvvavbMxK2a9_BeJdz7rGFfpQj_A2P1oZtlgKuRKgm2i1QDzgV8u84_sONF19yCZRfgVwH_IFFMC2E-reHNGfj0D-IQJxR94UpwQuZZguhMaFJdRSEA4aJgHdWRMAXr8GytIo/s1600/009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi96IjfxpOxvvavbMxK2a9_BeJdz7rGFfpQj_A2P1oZtlgKuRKgm2i1QDzgV8u84_sONF19yCZRfgVwH_IFFMC2E-reHNGfj0D-IQJxR94UpwQuZZguhMaFJdRSEA4aJgHdWRMAXr8GytIo/s400/009.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm linking this post to <a href="http://www.simplesimonandco.com/">Simple Simon & Company</a>'s Modern Quilt Along. I'm looking forward to 10 months of stretching myself and trying new things!<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
About a year later I added a <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/224319016/pdf-sewing-pattern-for-fillable-fabric?ref=related-4">pdf pattern</a> for the eggs, and finally this year I've been able to add another size to the sets of eggs.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm really excited (egg-cited?) about <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/496095992/large-fillable-fabric-easter-eggs-set-of?ref=listing-shop-header-0">these guys</a>. They're a little bit larger, and I added a zipper closure on the back.</div>

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm officially ready for Spring. Bring on the eggs! I'm looking forward to adding more styles in this size very soon!</div>

<br />
Oops.<br />
<br />
Never fear. I'll finish by the end of 2017! (I hope.)<br />
<br />
Alas, I returned to the quilt this week, and I finished up three more of the blocks.<br />

<br />
The customer loved her bag so much that when it came time for her to order another one, she thought of coming to me first. I wish you could see the smile on my face as I typed that sentence. Do you know how neat it makes me feel to know she thought of asking me to do another bag?<br />
<br />
In her message, the woman explained that she has a friend from Latvia, and she was wondering if I could incorporate a Latvia-themed scarf into a tote bag for her friend.<br />
<br />
Friends, this is what I love about the Etsy thing. I really enjoy custom orders, and I really REALLY enjoy it when I get to come up with something thoughtful/special/unique.<br />
<br />
Her only other request was that I use denim, so I took the scarf and got to work. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE_mwmo5ikTA_Qm21Fnx-46p4SzAGG3MurrqTrNp6Rml2_JhYt5LRak9NGShykoeYqD_CuHx7mClDIsfPQmKvwbKA7Z0A4EddCbKZBh5dXvGZvgZU9Of9PIrLHhi4eATwTc3EAwKCBJEy9/s1600/latvia.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE_mwmo5ikTA_Qm21Fnx-46p4SzAGG3MurrqTrNp6Rml2_JhYt5LRak9NGShykoeYqD_CuHx7mClDIsfPQmKvwbKA7Z0A4EddCbKZBh5dXvGZvgZU9Of9PIrLHhi4eATwTc3EAwKCBJEy9/s400/latvia.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Confession: I was terrified to make the first cut. Terrified, I tell you.<br />
<br />
But once I got past the first cut, the rest was fun. ;)<br />
<br />
Because of the large scale of the map on the scarf, I decided to use half of the country on the front of the bag, and half of the country on the back. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmvlZC3qwyuGVfdKb9G8iTW6WVng87p0nobVP76iFZvyKBO4hR-TdN_4bVpSRbb2Aeb6aZiUSXUYFMVZOGB8-pQHIpAbcHF-1F5HRqZ9E-Th4F__7wYE3eGH9aGiiIW5OJiZyV49BUFfBT/s1600/20161206_140725.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmvlZC3qwyuGVfdKb9G8iTW6WVng87p0nobVP76iFZvyKBO4hR-TdN_4bVpSRbb2Aeb6aZiUSXUYFMVZOGB8-pQHIpAbcHF-1F5HRqZ9E-Th4F__7wYE3eGH9aGiiIW5OJiZyV49BUFfBT/s400/20161206_140725.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Some of the placement of the panels was dictated by the recipient's hometown of Daugavpils- I wanted to make sure I didn't crop out the most important city on the map! (and wouldn't you know it was wayyy on the bottom...)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXp-e1sQZ7pA5-uwZbWoy5Rg3V-IW77rsJychhNeMU5cmyx2DcPykbjgaOJLFLM2V_K2liuyhngKtysNNpFoGrc0ZLqNfxPLl55A2tg3ik6u4GY6Zh3XguUkziw4BHdTHxOugowOsBs4f7/s1600/20161206_140739.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXp-e1sQZ7pA5-uwZbWoy5Rg3V-IW77rsJychhNeMU5cmyx2DcPykbjgaOJLFLM2V_K2liuyhngKtysNNpFoGrc0ZLqNfxPLl55A2tg3ik6u4GY6Zh3XguUkziw4BHdTHxOugowOsBs4f7/s400/20161206_140739.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
On the inside of the bag I added a pocket, and used some of the leftover scarf material. I think that's one of my favorite parts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggejfVJ8gerJXs4obE1vLS9Xk9_AWQNReU-ZGzFKRJh4li6MOTHvHqPad7Zvkot6gkmhz75p6l_e4KnejoQamRT1Yir_IXW2dFmr3-RqoMQp6qjFWY9vP6RwKYqm99mOTkwSbjUwNugTHB/s1600/20161206_140827.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="357" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggejfVJ8gerJXs4obE1vLS9Xk9_AWQNReU-ZGzFKRJh4li6MOTHvHqPad7Zvkot6gkmhz75p6l_e4KnejoQamRT1Yir_IXW2dFmr3-RqoMQp6qjFWY9vP6RwKYqm99mOTkwSbjUwNugTHB/s400/20161206_140827.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE_mwmo5ikTA_Qm21Fnx-46p4SzAGG3MurrqTrNp6Rml2_JhYt5LRak9NGShykoeYqD_CuHx7mClDIsfPQmKvwbKA7Z0A4EddCbKZBh5dXvGZvgZU9Of9PIrLHhi4eATwTc3EAwKCBJEy9/s1600/latvia.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
Et voila! I really hope the recipient of the bag enjoys this reminder of her home! I think it's such a thoughtful gift from her friend!<br />
<br />
Enjoy!Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09351997030786878286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008964028605751278.post-65885747208101347452016-11-29T14:19:00.000-06:002016-11-29T14:19:12.852-06:00Soft burp cloths.<div style="text-align: justify;">
Once in awhile I get to work on a project that's all nice and soft and baby-ish.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And it reminds me of a time when my kids were much smaller and tiny and sweet...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
...and it felt like they didn't sleep ever and I didn't sleep ever and it seemed like life was a ton of work.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
:)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Don't worry. I take my two minutes to appreciate the cuteness and cuddly-ness of tiny babies. And then I move on.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGszjXGQLOPaXF5aAJ2ifLCDZcHRkEZ_ZDArLe52ZjE048HM2rlnLzpmbJQrGXjz2r5WxwU7_fcwRpoEBlrU6Evxvc4Z4VL0EJ2FUAdftYF6iLX3Nb0YdOzIypSTtvNn1sYSwjPIdFbf3U/s1600/burp+cloths.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGszjXGQLOPaXF5aAJ2ifLCDZcHRkEZ_ZDArLe52ZjE048HM2rlnLzpmbJQrGXjz2r5WxwU7_fcwRpoEBlrU6Evxvc4Z4VL0EJ2FUAdftYF6iLX3Nb0YdOzIypSTtvNn1sYSwjPIdFbf3U/s400/burp+cloths.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's what happened when I made these adorable burp cloths for a friend. She requested some coordinating fabrics with woodland animals, and she requested that they be soft.</div>
<br />
I think I achieved both goals!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit1hOMdY6rryHHUA403O_wsp7NJIhypCot_f-sNlu6_lND9h0ziFmJI4W8Pq2kih4BWb0khCoVN3anhYSBtMc5nWlEot6usy05ISp8S-L_2xsijz8ycBOxo0LlRJj9UBhcVlZlut04Kl2g/s1600/047.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit1hOMdY6rryHHUA403O_wsp7NJIhypCot_f-sNlu6_lND9h0ziFmJI4W8Pq2kih4BWb0khCoVN3anhYSBtMc5nWlEot6usy05ISp8S-L_2xsijz8ycBOxo0LlRJj9UBhcVlZlut04Kl2g/s400/047.jpg" width="341" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So thankful for another opportunity to do a custom order. And may the baby that requires these burp cloths sleep. A lot. </div>
<br />
Enjoy. :)Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09351997030786878286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008964028605751278.post-47401942250369787652016-10-24T16:07:00.002-05:002016-10-24T16:07:49.174-05:00A beneficial quilt.Some friends from our church are in the process of adopting their second child, and last month they held a benefit to raise funds to offset their adoption expenses.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was honored to be able to contribute this little boy quilt to their silent auction. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBQjw84qh_TyLRKebTHIILwqXUqz6w0M0D5G4TCUhwPkFVug0pvDJfmG6Bex9bBRWZ4LtZm_1KresTKKnvfNStNzNl3Y-XEHDexwOLvijeJQH-xNJXeYKc_bcilDHHY2MlGwcaXYf7cwHH/s1600/016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBQjw84qh_TyLRKebTHIILwqXUqz6w0M0D5G4TCUhwPkFVug0pvDJfmG6Bex9bBRWZ4LtZm_1KresTKKnvfNStNzNl3Y-XEHDexwOLvijeJQH-xNJXeYKc_bcilDHHY2MlGwcaXYf7cwHH/s400/016.jpg" width="261" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The colors! I love these grays and blues. They just make a person calm, don't they? When I put the quilt together I didn't want to "crazy" them up any, so I kept the quilt simple and used horizontal lines. I think I accomplished my goal- the quilt has a very serene feel- it almost reminded me of the ocean/horizon.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Enjoy!</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyGs8WTsVuT1w94geKU3nLbBoadjKXRkHpr8JsBVFOEGWWoIxqAaHivXflyHfNCnsLhohwA_IteBUH8ei8Ozxkc4ZZaWVzVKVScnokkBYlVRz9xV02RtMvSd-v73gCmPxQUxu4wXAO_KAX/s1600/200.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyGs8WTsVuT1w94geKU3nLbBoadjKXRkHpr8JsBVFOEGWWoIxqAaHivXflyHfNCnsLhohwA_IteBUH8ei8Ozxkc4ZZaWVzVKVScnokkBYlVRz9xV02RtMvSd-v73gCmPxQUxu4wXAO_KAX/s400/200.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
What you need to know is that when I create something for someone (especially if it's a gift or if it's commissioned), I work REALLY hard to present it to the recipient first- before I plaster it all over the interwebZ....but extenuating circumstances are preventing that from happening this time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwnmlC8hNpW0rO3cNiZRKVOvCxuFbTX9J9Z79LwnGwBLczqqm2jWIKa3-Cc16wFZXGfvtcdcLUoJWdEpjiYrkrNGuQ-eVABz4t4d_9wggBEKiYyUEzRL4KLZUBzLj4ZunVCwHHf-uFV_rg/s1600/182.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="338" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwnmlC8hNpW0rO3cNiZRKVOvCxuFbTX9J9Z79LwnGwBLczqqm2jWIKa3-Cc16wFZXGfvtcdcLUoJWdEpjiYrkrNGuQ-eVABz4t4d_9wggBEKiYyUEzRL4KLZUBzLj4ZunVCwHHf-uFV_rg/s400/182.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And this time I am BURSTING at the seams wanting to blog about these quilts. I absolutely cannot hold it in ONE MORE SECOND because I love them so much.<br />

For the past three months I've been working on a series of memory quilts for a friend who lost her father a few years ago. It was her desire to have his clothing (mostly shirts, a few pairs of shorts) made into quilts for herself, her aunts, and her sisters.<br />

It was an honor an a privilege to create these quilts. I hope that they'll be full of great memories for the recipients.<br />

The pattern inspiration was taken from the book <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1607056534/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=cluclusew-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1607056534">Growing Up Modern</a> by Allison Harris (<a href="http://cluckclucksew.com/">CluckCluckSew</a>). I love her stuff. :)<br />
